First and foremost I want to thank each and every single person who supported me and our campaign to bring the 34th District back to the people. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the results we wanted. What Election Day has shown us is that we still have so much work to do. We know there is a part of our community, our base, where too many feel discouraged. We know there is urgency for us to fight for those who have given up on a system that doesn’t show up for the many.
We will continue to fight for our public schools, reproductive justice, an $18 minimum wage, paid family & medical leave, clean air & water, and protecting the union way of life. I am so proud of the campaign we ran, the new people we brought into this movement, and the opportunity we have to grow and learn from the outcomes.
With all of this I want to also remind those with the task of being a leader for all of us, we must do the work of hearing and responding to the people who have given up on this system. Election Day’s voter turnout was scary and we can’t ignore what that will mean for all of us this November.
To my neighbors in Wilkinsburg, I am still committed to my role as your school board director and fighting for our children, faculty, & families. For now I will rest, tap in with my family and loved ones, and prepare for what is next.
From the bottom of my heart I can’t say thank you enough!
Yours in the movement,
Ashley R. Comans
